This study analyzes the impact of character residence spaces on the narrative and conflict development in the film Marriage Story. In the film, residence spaces function as crucial narrative elements that go beyond mere background, revealing the characters' internal conflicts and emotional changes. The respective residence spaces of the two protagonists visually express their relationship and personal growth, and this study investigates how these spaces contribute to the formation and intensification of narrative conflict through Heidegger's philosophy. By applying Heidegger's spatial philosophy, the research explores how residence spaces in the film shape narrative conflict and reveal character existence, demonstrating that space acts as a core element of the narrative rather than just a backdrop. This study offers a new understanding of the narrative role of space in film, highlighting the significant role that spatial elements play in shaping the relationship between narrative and character. Through Heidegger's philosophical concepts, the study clarifies how residence spaces contribute to the deepening of narrative and conflict, providing new insights for future spatial analyses in various works.
