As competition in the film industry intensifies, film trailers serve as the initial point of contact between audiences and films, with their editing strategies playing a crucial role in arousing viewers' interest and curiosity. Through skillful editing and visual effects, trailers reach the climax of dramatic conflict, create strong suspense, and present the most exciting content to attract audiences to theaters. This study aims to explore the application of Gestalt psychology principles in film trailer editing and its impact on trailer effectiveness. The research covers the award-winning trailers from the 2023 Golden Trailer Awards in the USA, including Oppenheimer, Barbie, John Wick: Chapter 4, and Cocaine Bear. It analyzes the specific applications of four major Gestalt principles: proximity, similarity, continuity, and closure in these trailers. The research methods include case analysis of trailer editing strategies. The results indicate that these Gestalt principles significantly enhance visual effects and narrative coherence in trailers, thereby boosting audience emotional engagement and market performance. The conclusions highlight the practical application value of Gestalt principles in trailer production, providing theoretical guidance for trailer editing and practical strategies for film marketing. This study aims to expand the audience appeal and market influence of films through precise and effective editing strategies, offering comprehensive trailer production recommendations that combine creative storytelling with market strategies.
