This study aims to present a new approach to media acting. It reexamines the preconceived notion that media acting is primarily an art of directing or editing, and instead proposes an actor-centered approach that focuses on the physicality of actors and the reality effect that stems from the movement in visual media. To achieve this, the concept of ‘film image’ will be reinterpreted from the perspective of media acting, analyzing how the actor’s role and physical expression hold crucial significance in media performances. Additionally, the current overemphasis on Method acting as the core of media acting will be critically examined, along with the confusion surrounding terms such as ‘emotional memory’ or ‘affective memory,’ and their limitations. By analyzing the concepts of ‘affection’ and ‘memory’ through the lens of the ‘film image,’ this study will explore the theoretical errors and limitations of affective memory. It will demonstrate that ‘emotion’ and ‘memory’ cannot remain pure perceptions and that relying on this methodology in acting training is not an ideal approach. This research points out that the current Method acting-dominated approach in media acting does not fully consider the integration of physical expression and psycho-physical techniques. It argues for the need to rethink the current trajectory of media acting to meet its more complex demands, contributing to a reevaluation of media acting practices today.
