A Study on the Repetition of the Static Scenes-Focused on <Lady Macbeth> -

The repetitions that are used meaningfully in a movie include time travel or repetition of realistic everyday life. In <Lady Macbeth>(2016), the debut film of director William Oldroyd, which is evaluated for elaborate directing of making scene of symbol and message, the repetition acts as a significance of the film. The scenes repeated in the movie are still scenes with almost no movement, but the scene itself revealed the message, and differences and changes are revealed as they are repeated. This paper is to identify the method of repeating still scenes the director used in <Lady Macbeth> and its effect. The results of analyzing the movie indicate that two pairs of a series of repeated scenes are closely connected to each other. In addition, each Missenscene of still scenes contain the symbol intended by the director, and the pair made up of these repeated scenes appeared as a symbolic style of the director that delivers core message of the film even by seeing them apart. This type of directing method is a unique aesthetic achievement of director that is not bounded by customs. In conclusion, the artistry and commerciality of the film can be continued only when these achievements are found and analyzed.
