This study focuses on distinctive features of ironic music technique in film music, by studying this technique of counterpoint conflicting to a parallelism, a mickey mousing technique that is used as an important principle in classic Hollywood film music. For this, the author covers counterpoint of Hanns Eisler and montage theory of Sergei Eisenstein, a Russian film director. A musical counterpoint relation in films means giving such significant emotions to audiences inserting bright or exciting music in sad scenes, not adding similar sad music, as an ironic technique. Among films representing an ironic music technique of counterpoint, the author first looks over Bach’s <English Suite No.2> used in Schindler's List, finding effects of isolation and separation in the film. Secondly, through ironic movies with <What a wonderful world> by Louis Armstrong, the author finds functions of satire and criticism in the movie. Third, suggestive and indicative functions of counterpoint in the movie <Swiri> are found. As a result, an ironic music technique of counterpoint in films may be highly easy to convey diverse functions such as suggestion, indication, criticism, satire, isolation, separation in films.
