This study is about Korean wave dramas' structure of conflicts. Given that the creation and resolution of conflicts are the primary means and process of any drama's reaching out to the audience, one of the first meaningful steps toward the studies to enhance the quality and value of Korean wave drams could be the analysis of their structure of conflicts. First, many of Korean wave dramas tend to involve professionals and their workplaces as the backdrop of conflicts, which tend to be multi-layered rather than being singular. Second, main characters typically go through conflicts in two areas of their lives - the one with colleagues in their job and the other with the elderly at home. Third, Korean wave dramas are largely didactic ones typically with a happy ending. The analysis target of the successful Korean Wave drama was set as a mini-series that had been exported to more than 15 countries or recorded sales of over 3 million dollars. The analysis of Korean dramas that succeeded during this period is valuable in the sense that the new production paradigm of pre-production and international co-production was applied as the Korean Wave market was reopened during the downturn.
