A study on korean supernatural power films- focused on films <The Silenced> and <Psychokinesis> -

Korean films should be changed anew. Times that the age of watching movies in theaters are drawing to an end. Movies have entered the age of platforms. You can access Netflix, Watcha through IT devices such as TV, mobile, computer and watch contents. At this time, the contents consumed is diverse, including foreign dramas, web dramas, and TV programs as well as movies. What are the demands of movie audiences with the diversification of the platform markets? It’s probably ‘fresh’ and ‘fun’. They include new materials, cinematic attractions and interesting stories. This research is a study of a new and unfamiliar material called ‘supernatural power’ films. Hollywood has produced and screened a number of supernatural power films, but the history of Korean supernatural power films has been short. As a result, the Korean supernatural power films, which are made in Korea, are (yet) drawing expectation from the audience as a “new and interesting movie”. This paper explains the universal characteristics of a ‘supernatural power’ film by dividing them into ①.body, ②.human/nonhuman, ③.desire, and applies to the analysis of two Korean ‘supernatural power’ films. And I find out what caused the box office failure. Of course, it is not only the universal characteristics of supernatural power films that these two films failed to hit the box office. So, I described the contents with interest in the composition of the two films, as well as the theme, the emotion, and the characters. I hope that this study will help in the development of a “supernatural power film” that can be resonated by the audience as a “new and interesting Korean commercial film,” and above all, it will be an opportunity to give implications to the development of Korean films.
