The purposes of this study are to find out what Eun-hee, the protagonist of House of Hummingbird (KIM Bora, 2018), interpellates as a subject, to grasp how Ideological State Apparatuses(ISA) are operated, and to understand the reason why the film set in 1994 is important at the present time. The close textual analysis has been performed with the theoretical frameworks of the educational ISA and the family ISA that the two dominant ISAs suggested by Althusser. As a result the analysis Ideological State Apparatuses represented by Schools and the Family maintained and reinforced the capitalist ideologies and the mode of production in 1994 through the direct and indirect violence on Eun-hee. Repressive patriarchal ideology and the violence of the state power strongly supported that. The significance of the film can be viewed as following three. The first, House of Hummingbird makes us ruminate on the present educational and family ISA, which have been grown strongly, via Eun-hee’s daily life in 1994. The second, the film make us ask to introspect the historical trauma by means of narrativizing the violence on Eun-hee that is the result of the combination of RSA and ISA, in other words penetration of the state power into everyday life. Finally, the film gives us the strict warning that ISA associated with RSA may annihilate individuals’ free will by representing the death of Young-ji that is the consequence of ruling ideology’s incapacitating anti-ideological forces, in other words, the state power’s eliminating resistant individuals.
