A Film Policy Study on Multiplex Chains to Enhance Cultural Diversity and Economic Fairness: -Focused on French Restriction and Support Policies -

The Korean film industry is concentrated in on the primary market, movie theater market. The problem is that this market is dominated by certain economic players, the three major multiplex chains(CGV, Lotte cinema, and Megabox). Furthermore, They are linked to conglomerates that also combine film investment and production. They are maximizing their profits with a huge distribution strategy called ‘screen monopoly’ The Korean film industry, which is biased toward big budget commercial films, is vulnerable in terms of cultural diversity. France has settled French cinematographic conglomerates in the film industry system of diversity with support and regulation. This study examines French film policy in terms of regulation and support on the film distribution screening market. This is an attempt to contribute to the fairness of the Korean film industry for establishing a new distribution and screening order in response to the development of digital technology.
