최근 교육과정 분야에서의 전이 개념에 대한 이론적 고찰: 진화와 전환

A Theoretical Review of the Concept of Transfer in Recent Curriculum Studies: Evolution and Transformation

본 연구는 다양한 교육과정 이론의 역사를 따라 전이 개념이 어떻게 진화해 왔는지 고찰하고, 최근 교육과정 이론에서 개념화된 전이의 특징과 교육적 의의를 도출하고자 하였다. 기존 전이 개념은 일반적 전이로 시작하여 특수적 전이로 변화했다가, ‘지식의 구조’와 ‘사회적 상호작용’을 통해 다시 일반적 전이로 재개념화되었다. 최근 교육과정에서는 삶의 기술을 위한 일반적 능력과 깊이 있는 이해를 통한 전이가 강조되는 방향으로 나아가고 있다. 이러한 진화 과정에서 이 둘을 연결하는 Bruner의 역할이 재조명되었다. 최근 전이 개념은 다음과 같은 세 가지 주요 특징을 갖는다. 첫째, 불확실성이 높아지는 사회와 학습자의 능동성을 중시하는 맥락 속에서 그 중요성이 부각 되었다. 둘째, 개념적 사고의 효과성이 강조된다. 셋째, 전이를 강조하는 교육과정 개발이다. 본 연구는 이러한 전환된 전이 개념의 교육적 의의를 다음과 같이 제시한다. 첫째, ‘긴 전이’로의 전환은 평생에 걸친 영속적 이해를 강조하며, 빅 아이디어에 대해 지속적으로 성찰하는 안목을 기르는 것이 중요함을 시사한다. 둘째, 전략적 전이 개념으로의 전환은 전이가 교사의 적극적인 교육과정 설계와 학습자의 메타인지 및 통합적 사고를 통해 이루어지는 역동적인 과정임을 보여준다. 셋째, 최근 교육과정은 ‘개념적 사고’와 ‘삶의 기술’이라는 목표를 절충하고 있으며, 이 두 관점을 통합하는 ‘기예’를 발휘하여 앎과 삶이 통합된 교육을 실현해야 함을 의미한다.

This study examines the evolution of the concept of transfer by tracing the history of various curriculum theories and aims to identify characteristics and educational implications how transfer is conceptualized in recent curriculum studies. The concept of transfer has shifted from general to specific, before being redefined to integrate the 'structure of knowledge' and 'social interaction.' Recently, it has come to emphasize both ‘deep conceptual understanding’ and ‘practical life skills’. In this progression from traditional to recent concept, Bruner's role in bridging these two periods has been re-examined. The recent concept of transfer is characterized by three key features: (1) the highlighting of its significance within the contexts of an increasingly uncertain society and learner agency, (2) an emphasis on the effectiveness of conceptual thinking, and (3) a strong focus on transfer in curriculum development. This study provides educational implications for this transformed understanding of transfer: (1) The transition to 'long transfer,' highlights the need for a critical perspective to continuously reflect on 'big ideas' and achieve lifelong understanding. (2) Strategic transfer is a dynamic process requiring a teacher's deliberate curriculum design and a learner's integrated thinking. (3) Recent curriculum have compromised between the goals of 'conceptual thinking' and 'life skills,' requiring teachers to exercise the 'eclectic art’ to create a unified learning and life.
