지역 설화의 무형유산적 가치 확장을 위한 온톨로지 설계 시론-��한국구비문학대계�� 전라남도 순천 자료를 대상으로

Ontology Design for Expanding Value of Local Folklore as Intangible Cultural Heritage: Focusing on Suncheon tales in Korean Oral Literature Collection

이 논문은 ��한국구비문학대계』 전라남도 순천(구 승주군･현 순천시 포괄) 자료를 대상으로, 디지털인문학의 방법론을 활용하여 지역 설화의 무형유산적 가치를 부각할 수 있는 방향을 모색하였다. 자료의 전반적 경향을 살피기 위해 제목 키워드 분석을 행한 뒤, 연구방법의 한계를 인지하고 온톨로지 설계로 나아갔다. 먼저, 제목 분석을 통해 1차와 2차 시기 조사 자료 사이의 연속과 단절을 살피고 전승의 대략적 경향을 추정하였다. 제목 키워드 빈도 분석만으로는 순천 설화에서 무형유산적 가치를 부각할 수 있는 유의미한 테마를 찾기 어려웠다. 제목 분석을 연장하여 제목에 3회 이상 함께 등장한 동시 출현 키워드 네트워크 분석을 수행함으로써 도깨비, 낙안 등의 주제가 순천 설화에서 일정한 매개성을 지니고 있음을 가늠하였다. 그러나 자료의 규모가 키워드 분석을 유효하게 활용할 만큼 충분히 크지 않은 상황에서 제목 분석은 분명한 한계가 있었다. 이에 자료의 현황을 존중하면서 설화 무형유산 데이터베이스 구축의 대안을 모색하였다. 구체적 대안으로, 기존 연구와 운영 사례 등을 참조하여 온톨로지･시맨틱 데이터베이스･지식그래프 구축의 방향을 시론적으로 제안하였다. 현 단계의 작업은 실험적･시론적 성격을 갖는바, 이 논문에서 완성된 대규모 데이터베이스를 목표하기보다 우선 개체 간 연결이 구조화될 수 있는지 연결의 타당성을 검토하였다. 온톨로지의 주요 구성 요소인 개체, 개체의 범주, 관계, 속성 등을 정의하면서 여러 시행착오를 거쳤으나 한편으로는 설화의 내용 요소로부터 개체, 범주, 관계 속성 등을 실제로 도출해 내고 그래픽 데이터베이스로 시각화하였다. 자료의 수적 규모가 크지 않더라도 관계성이 확보된다면 데이터베이스 구축의 가능성이 충분함을 알 수 있었다. 이 논문의 작업은 ‘규모에서 관계로’ 연구의 초점을 전환하려는 시도이다. 향후 개체, 범주, 관계, 속성 등을 보완한다면 ‘낙안’ 관련 문화유산 전체의 그래프를 시도할 수 있을 것이다. 데이터베이스 및 네트워크 구축의 장점은 0에서 100을 만드는 작업을 반복하기보다 이미 구축된 네트워크를 접속시킴으로써 네트워크를 부단히 확장하는 것에 있다. 추후 방법론의 정련을 거쳐, 설화가 유무형 문화유산 온톨로지라는 공동체적 맥락에서 그 무형유산적 가치를 확보하게 되는 상호작용을 기대한다.

This paper explores ways to highlight the intangible cultural heritage value of regional folktales, focusing on data from Suncheon (the former Seungju County and present-day Suncheon City) in the Korean Oral Literature Collection as a digital humanities approach. Following title keyword analysis, ontology design was performed, which involved examining the overall trends of the data through title keyword analysis, recognizing the limitations of the research method, and seeking alternatives. First, through title analysis, I examined the continuity and discontinuity between the first and second periods of recorded data and estimated the general trends of transmission. However, identifying meaningful themes in Suncheon regional folktales using only title keyword frequency analysis was challenging. Continuing the keyword analysis, I analyzed the co-occurrence network of keywords that appeared together in the titles three or more times and inferred that themes such as dokkaebi and Nakan had a certain mediating role in Suncheon folktales. Where the scale of the data was not large enough to effectively utilize data analysis, the title analysis revealed certain limitations. Therefore, while respecting the current state of the data, I explored alternatives for constructing a database, such as intangible folktale heritage. As a specific alternative, I proposed constructing an ontology, semantic database, and knowledge graph, referring to existing research and public services. This study is an experimental work; therefore, rather than aiming for a completed large-scale database, I first examined the validity of the connections to observe if the arrangement of relationships among elements could be successful. I encountered various trial-and-error challenges while defining key ontology components, such as entities, classes, relationships, and attributes, and deriving them from the content elements of folktales. Even if the numerical scale of the data is not large, the possibility of constructing a database is sufficient if the data possesses rich relativity. This work also attempts to shift the focus of research from “scale to relationships.” If entities, classes, relationships, and attributes are supplemented, attempting to create a network of all intangible cultural heritage related to Nakan on a whole scale will be possible. The advantage of network construction lies in the ability to infinitely expand the network by connecting existing networks, rather than creating data repeatedly from zero to one hundred. Through future refinement, I expect that folktales will retain value as intangible cultural heritage through the community context of cultural heritage ontology.
