정수남의 동물성과 자청비의 동물 되기- <세경본풀이> 보론

The Animality of Jeongsunam and Becoming an Animal of Jacheongbi: Supplementary Discussion on Segyeongbonpuri

<세경본풀이>는 그간 서사학･페미니즘, 나아가 생산양식의 반영이라는 관점에서 진전된 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 여전히 해명되지 않은 부분이 있다. 그것은 ‘왜 한날한시에 태어난 하인 정수남이 상전 자청비에 대해 그토록 강한 성적 집착을 드러내는가’라는 것이다. 이 의문은 성적 억압이라는 페미니즘의 시각만으로는 해석하기 어렵다. 정수남의 자청비에 대한 성적 집착은 마불림제의 주인공인 정수남의 목축신적 본질을 보여준다. 백중에 거행되는 마불림제는 말 목축의 축소에 따라 그 원형이 모호해지면서 장마 이후 신의를 말리는 굿으로 변형되었으나 그 본질은 마소의 생산이 풍부해지도록 기원하는 굿이다. 특히 마불림제 전야에 테우리들이 따로 목마장에서 지냈던 테우리코사는 간소한 의례에도 불구하고 마불림기원의례의 취지를 잘 드러낸다. 이 테우리코사는 입춘에 이뤄지는 풍농의례인 낭쉐코사와 짝을 이루고 있는, 그리고 굿놀이의 하나인 <세경놀이>에 표현되어 있는 제주의 생산의례이다. 농경의 풍요나 마소의 증식은 재생산의 문제이다. 이 때문에 인류는 곡물의 파종기나 가축의 교미기에 풍요를 위한 유감주술적 의례를 베풀었다. 나경이 그렇고, 몽골의 마유제나 나담축제 시의 성적 행위가 그러하고, 현재는 기억조차 희미해졌지만 테우리코사 때의 유감주술이 그러하다. 정수남의 자청비에 대한 성적 행위는 이 오래된 유감주술적 생산의례의 표현이다. 그러나 정수남의 강렬한 성애는 성공에 이르지 못할뿐만 아니라 자청비에 의한 살해와 재생을 통해 승화된다. 이는 <세경본풀이>가 세경신의 신화이기 때문이고, 바령･밧림 과 같은 제주의 농법에는 길들여진 마소가 긴요했기 때문이다.

Segyeongbonpuri has been studied extensively from the perspectives of narrative studies, feminism, and even in relation to agricultural production patterns. However, one aspect remains unexplained: why does Jeongsunam, a servant born on the same day and at the same time, display such a strong sexual obsession with his master, Jacheongbi? This question is difficult to interpret solely from the feminist perspective of sexual suppression. Jeongsunam's sexual obsession with Jacheongbi reveals the essence of Jeongsunam, the protagonist of the Mabulrim ritual, as a shepherd deity. The Mabulrim ritual, performed in Baekjung, became vague as horse herding declined, and its original form was transformed into a ritual of drying garments of the gods after the rainy season. However, the essence of the ritual lies in praying for an abundant horse production. The Teuri-ritual, a simple ritual held by the Teuris in a separate horse stable on the eve of the Mabulrim ritual, nevertheless vividly captures the spirit of the Mabulrim ritual. This Teuri-ritual is a Jeju fertility ritual, paired with the Woodbull-ritual, a harvest festival held on the first day of spring. Agricultural abundance and the proliferation of horses and oxen are all concerned with reproduction. Therefore, humans have performed shamanistic rituals to ensure fertility during the sowing and mating seasons. Examples include the Nagyeong ritual, the sexual acts during the Mongolian Mayu Festival and Naadam Festival, and the now-faded memory of the Teuri ritual. Jeongsunam's sexual act with Jacheongbi is an expression of this ancient fertility ritual of homeopathic magic. However, Jeongsunam's intense sexual act not only fails but is sublimated through Jacheongbi's murder and rebirth. This is because the Segyeongbonpuri is the myth of the god of agriculture, and because Jeju farming methods, such as Baryeong and Batbalrim, require tamed horses and oxen.
