지연된 애도의 고전서사적 재현 연구-시간성의 변형을 중심으로

Delayed Mourning in Korean Classical Narratives: The Inflexion of Temporality

본 연구는 애도와 상실을 다룬 고전서사 중 미완결되거나 지연된 애도를 기술하는 고전서사들을 구분하여 그 서사적 재현을 고찰하려는 연구이다. 고전문학을 중심으로 관련 연구를 찾아본다면, 무가 등을 중심으로 죽음과 제의를 다룬 연구들을 적지 않게 찾아볼 수 있고, 문학적 상실과 애도의 문제를 직접적으로 다룬 연구들 역시 확인된다. 기존 연구의 초점은 애도라는 상황과 감정, 혹은 치유와 극복을 중심으로 하는 관점에 기반한다. 본고는 이러한 선행연구를 토대로, 미완결되거나 지연된 애도의 서사가 이러한 상태와 구조를 어떻게 서사적으로 재현하는지에 주목하고자 했다. 서사적 재현에는 시간성 인식의 변화가 나타나고 그것이 시공간의 변형으로 나타난다는 것이 유의미한 특징이다. 그리고 실재세계와는 유리된 이와 같은 시공간의 변형은 결국은 설화가 가지는 중재적 기능에 기반한 것이다. 시간성에 대한 재인식이 삶을 지속하려는 중재적 시도로 이어져 서사적으로 재현되는 것이다. 이를 위해 시간성의 응축이 나타나는 박제상 설화와 시간성의 역행이 나타나는 아랑 설화를 분석하고, 그 고전서사적 재현과 의미작용을 분석하였다. 상실과 부재를 물화하거나 공간화하거나 혹은 존재화하는 방식으로 지연된 애도를 수행하는 것이다.

This study seeks to distinguish Korean classical narratives that address mourning and loss, specifically those that depict either incomplete or delayed mourning, and to examine the narrative representation of these states. Previous studies have extensively examined death and ritual, particularly in shamanic epics, as well as studies that directly engage with the themes of loss and mourning in Korean classical literature. Existing scholarship has primarily focused on the emotional and situational aspects of mourning or on perspectives centered around healing and overcoming grief. This study builds on this previous research by examining the representation of delayed mourning through their narrative structure. A notable characteristic of these representations is the transformation of temporality, which manifests as alterations in time and space. Such transformations, detached from the real world, ultimately stem from the mediating function inherent in tales. The reconfiguration of temporality is represented as a mediating attempt to sustain life. This study analyzes versions of the Park Jesang tales characterized by temporal condensation and Arang tales marked by temporal regression, examining their modes of classical narrative representation and signification. These narratives depict delayed mourning through the materialization, spatialization, or personification of loss and absence.
