Clinical Efficacy of Dual-Task Cognitive Training Combined With Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Older Adults

Objective: To examine the effects of dual-task cognitive training combined with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on cognitive and daily functioning in older adults. Methods: Ten older adults participated in an eight-session dual-task cognitive training program combined with tDCS. Pre- and post-intervention assessments measured cognitive function, activities of daily living, attention, and brain activity using validated tools. Results: Post-intervention analyses showed significant improvements in cognitive function (measured by the Comprehensive Item Selection Test and the Korean version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment), instrumental activities of daily living (measured by the Korean version of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living scale), and reduced cognitive decline (measured by the Global Deterioration Scale) (all p < .05). No significant changes were observed in attentional control (measured by the Attentional Control Questionnaire) or in the accuracy and reaction times on the N-back and Stroop tasks. Conclusion: Combined dual-task cognitive training and tDCS may improve cognitive function and activities of daily living in older adults. Further research is warranted to validate and optimize this intervention.

목적: 본 연구는 고령자를 대상으로 이중과제 인지훈련과 경두개 직류전기자극(transcranial direct current stimulation; tDCS)을 병행 적용했을 때 인지기능 및 일상생활 수행능력에 미치는 효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 고령자 10명을 대상으로 8회기 동안 이중과제 훈련과 tDCS를 병행하는 중재를 실시하였다. 중재 전후로 표준화된 평가도구를 사용하여 인지기능, 일상생활활동, 주의력을 측정하였다. 결과: 중재 후 분석한 결과, 인지기능(CIST, K-MoCA)과 수단적 일상생활활동(K-IADL)이 유의하게 향상되었으며, 인지 저하(GDS)는 유의하게 감소하였다(p < .05). 반면, 주의력(ACQ), N-back 및 Stroop 과제의 정확도와 반응시간에서는 유의한 변화가 나타나지 않았다. 결론: 이중과제 인지훈련과 tDCS의 병합 중재는 노인의 인지기능과 일상생활 수행능력 향상에 긍정적인 효과가 있을 수 있음을 시사한다. 향후 중재의 효과를 검증하고 최적화하기 위한 추가 연구가 필요하다.
