자율전공학부 확산에 따른 CTL의 대응 방안 연구

Strategies for CTL Response to the Expansion of the Department of Liberal Studies

자율전공학부는 학문 간 경계의 유연화와 학생 주도적 전공 선택이라는 시대적 요구에 부응하여 급속히 도입되고 있으나, 실제 운영 현장에서는 진로 탐색의 혼란, 소속감 부재, 기초학력 부족 등 다양한 문제점이 지속적으로 제기되고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 국내·외 자율전공학부의 운영 사례 및 정책 자료를 바탕으로 자율전공학부 운영의 난점과 학생 지원 현황을 분석하고, 이에 대응하기 위한 CTL의 교수학습 차원의 과제를 도출하였다. 이를 위하여 문헌분석, 현장 전문가 인터뷰, 타당도 검토 등의 과정을 거쳐, CTL의 역할 변화에 대한 세 가지 시나리오를 제시하였다. 공통 기반으로 ‘에듀테크 기반 CTL 역할 전환’을 설정하고, 이를 바탕으로 ① 교육혁신 연구조직으로서 CTL, ② 지·산·학 융합교육 컨설팅 조직으로서 CTL, ③ 전공 탐색 및 설계 역할을 포괄하는 조직으로서 CTL이라는 유형별 시나리오를 도출하였다. 시나리오는 각 대학의 규모, 정책 방향, 자원 수준에 따라 유연하게 선택·조합될 수 있도록 설계되었으며, CTL이 단순한 교수법 지원 조직을 넘어 학생 성공을 위한 전략적 거점으로 기능해야 함을 강조하였다. 본 연구는 자율전공학부의 제도적 안착을 위한 대학 내 조직 설계의 방향성을 제시하고, CTL이 교육혁신의 실질적 실행 주체로 전환되기 위한 구체적 실천 모델을 탐색하였다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 또한 시나리오 기반 접근을 통해 단일한 정답이 아닌, 다양한 맥락에 적용할 수 있는 전략을 도출하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The Department of Liberal Studies has been rapidly introduced in response to the growing demand for more flexible academic structures and student-driven major selection. However, various challenges continue to emerge in practice, including confusion in career exploration, lack of belonging, and insufficient foundational academic skills. This study analyzes the operational difficulties and current student support systems of liberal studies departments based on domestic and international cases and policy data, and identifies pedagogical tasks for Centers for Teaching and Learning in response to these challenges. Through literature analysis, expert interviews, and validity reviews, the study proposes three scenarios for the evolving role of CTLs. Centering on a common foundation of edutech-based transformation, the scenarios outline CTL as: (1) a research organization for educational innovation, (2) a consulting hub for academia-industry-government convergence education, and (3) a support unit for major exploration and academic planning. These models are designed to be flexibly selected or combined depending on the size, policy direction, and resources of each university. The study emphasizes the need for CTLs to evolve beyond conventional instructional support roles and serve as strategic hubs for student success. This research contributes by offering a direction for organizational redesign within universities to support the sustainable implementation of liberal studies departments. It also presents a practical framework for repositioning CTLs as key agents of educational innovation. The scenario-based approach highlights the value of adaptable, context-sensitive strategies over a one-size-fits-all model.
