Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of gender norms, relationship power, and couple communication on sexual assertiveness among heterosexual couples in late adolescent using the Actor–Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). Methods: Participants were 46 dating couples aged 19–24 years. Each partner completed validated questionnaires assessing gender norms (K-MSI), relationship power (SRPS), couple communication, and sexual assertiveness. Data were analyzed with APIM to distinguish actor and partner effects. Results: Gender norms, relationship power, and couple communication showed significant actor effects but no partner effects. For women, stronger traditional gender norms were associated with lower sexual assertiveness, and higher relationship power predicted greater sexual assertiveness. In both genders, higher couple communication was linked to greater sexual assertiveness. No partner effects were observed for any variables. Conclusion: Sexual assertiveness, though embedded in interpersonal contexts, appears to depend primarily on individual attitudes and competencies rather than partner characteristics. These findings highlight the need for multidimensional interventions that address personal skills, relational dynamics, and gender-equitable norms to promote sexual health among late adolescents.
