Purpose: This research was conducted to examine the relationship among ethical climate, ethical nursing competence, and moral distress among clinical nurses at a general hospital, and to identify factors influencing moral distress. Methods: The participants of this study were clinical nurses who provide direct nursing care, targeting nurses with more than one year of work experience in general hospitals. The data were collected from January 5 to 19, 2024. Data analysis used t-test, ANOVA, Games-Howell, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple regression. Results: Clinical nurses’ moral distress was statistically significantly negatively correlated with ethical climate and ethical nursing competence. Factors influencing the moral distress of clinical nurses were the ethical climate and turnover intention from current job to ethical issues, position, ethical nursing competence, showing 24.0% of explanatory power. Conclusion: Hospital organizations should provide clinical nurses with opportunities to raise ethical issues and resolve them within the organization. This will contribute to resolving ethical conflicts and reducing moral distress among clinical nurses by fostering a positive ethical climate and enhancing ethical nursing competencies.
