청소년기 사이버 도박 중단 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

A Phenomenological Study on the Experience of Stopping Cyber Gambling during Adolescence

본 연구의 목적은 청소년기에 도박을 반복했던 청소년들이 어떻게 도박을 중단하여 벗어날 수 있었는 지를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 청소년기에 사이버 도박을 반복했으나 현재 1년 이상 도박을 중단한 5명의 참여자들을 대상으로 도박 중단 경험에 관하여 심층 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 청소년기에 어떻게 도박을 중단할 수 있었는지에 중점을 두고 그 본질을 파악하기 위해 Giorgi의 분석을 적용하였다. 분석 결과 33개의 의미단위를 추출하였고, 의미단위를 공통된 내용으로 구분하여 하위 구성요소 17개를 확인하였다. 그리고 하위 구성요소를 시간적, 구조적 맥락 속에서 공통된 주제로 묶어 최종적으로‘멀어진 가정과 가까운 친구 사이에서 시작된 도박’,‘온라인 생태계가 도박으로 가는 수로가 됨’,‘중독을 부추기는 감정과 행동’,‘중독을 부추기는 도박 체계’,‘통증을 교훈 삼은 도박 중단’,‘도움을 받음으로써 중단할 수 있는 도박’,‘올바른 경제적 가치와 긍정적인 소비 경험’,‘나를 개방하고 도박이 아닌 곳으로 눈을 돌림’등 8개 주제를 도출하였다. 연구결과를 기반으로 개인적 차원, 환경적 차원, 정책적 차원에서의 포괄적이면서 구체적인 제언과 방향성을 제시하였다. 이러한 제안점은 더욱 은밀해지고 다양화되는 도박을 근절할 수 있는 개선점들을 연구하는데 중요한 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the experience how to stopping cyber gambling during their adolescence. For this purpose, the researchers conducted in-depth interviews with five participants who repeatedly engaged in cyber gambling during adolescence but have now abstained for over a year, focusing on their experiences of stopping. Focusing on how they managed to stop gambling during adolescence and to grasp its essence, Giorgi's analysis was applied. The analysis yielded 33 summarized meaning units, which were grouped into 17 sub-components based on common themes. These sub-components were then grouped into common themes within temporal and structural contexts, ultimately yielding eight themes:‘Gambling that began between a distant family and close friends’,‘The online ecosystem becoming a conduit to gambling’,‘Emotions and behaviors that fuel addiction’,‘Gambling systems that fuel addiction’, ‘Quitting gambling by learning from pain’,‘Gambling that can be stopped by receiving help’, ‘Proper economic values and positive consumption experiences’, ‘Opening myself up and looking elsewhere beyond gambling’. Based on the research findings, comprehensive yet specific recommendations and directions were proposed at the individual, environmental, and policy levels. These suggestions can serve as important reference material for studying improvements to eradicate gambling, which is becoming increasingly covert and diversified.
