중년 남성의 온라인도박중독 과정에 대한 질적사례연구

A Qualitative Case Study on the Process of Online Gambling Addiction in Middle-Aged Men

본 연구는 중년 남성의 온라인 도박 중독 과정 전반을 이해하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2년 이상 온라인 도박을 지속한 40~60대 남성 7명을 의도적 표집하여 다중사례연구 방법을 적용하였다. 수집된 자료는 사례 내 분석과 사례 간 분석을 통해 심층적으로 분석하고, 참여자들이 경험하는 공통된 중독 경로를 규명하였다. 연구 결과, 중독은 내적 공백과 관계적 회피에서 출발하여, 온라인 도박의 특성인 기호 화폐 현상과 시공간의 잠식으로 급격히 가속화되었다. 이후 중독행위는 통제에 대한 환상에 의해 지속적으로 유지되었으며, 결국 이 과정은 관계 파탄과 자괴의 심연이라는 파괴적 결과로 이어졌다. 본 연구는 중년 남성이라는 특정 집단이 경험하는 중독의 다차원 과정을 조명함으로써, 이들을 위한 효과적인 예방 및 개입 전략 수립에 기여한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

This study aims to comprehensively understand the overall process of online gambling addiction in middle-aged men(aged 40-60). For this purpose, a multi-case study method was applied, utilizing purposive sampling of seven men aged 40 to 60 who had continuously engaged in online gambling for over two years. The collected data were analyzed in depth through within-case and cross-case analysis to identify the common addiction pathway experienced by the participants. The research results revealed that the addiction process originates from internal emptiness and relational avoidance. It is then rapidly accelerated by the unique characteristics of online gambling, such as the simulacrum currency phenomenon and the erosion of space-time. Subsequently, the addictive behavior is continuously maintained by the illusion of control. Ultimately, this process leads to destructive consequences, including relational breakdown and the abyss of self-destruction. This study is significant in that it illuminates the multidimensional process of addiction experienced by the specific group of middle-aged men, thereby contributing to the establishment of effective prevention and intervention strategies for them.
