The Impact of College Student's Grit on Career Preparation Behavior: Sequential Mediating Effects of Search for Meaning in Life and the Presence of Meaning in Life

본 연구는 그릿이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향에서 삶의 의미 추구와 의미 발견의 역할을 검증하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 대학생을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 통해 그릿, 삶의 의미 추구, 삶의 의미 발견, 진로준비행동 척도를 실시하여 286명의 자료를 분석하였다. SPSS 24.0과 Process Macro 6번 모형을 활용하여 주요 변인 간 기술통계 및 상관분석을 실시하였고, 순차적 매개효과를 검증하였다. 연구 결과는 첫째, 그릿과 삶의 의미 추구, 삶의 의미 발견, 진로준비행동은 모두 유의미한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 둘째, 그릿이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향에서 삶의 의미 추구는 순차적 매개효과가 유의하지 않았다. 셋째, 그릿이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향에서 삶의 의미 발견은 순차적 매개효과가 유의미하게 나타났다. 넷째, 그릿이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향에서 삶의 의미 추구와 의미 발견이 부분 매개효과를 나타냈다. 본 연구는 변화하는 직업 세계에서 학생들 이 단순히 목표를 추구하는 것에 그치지 않고, 그 과정에서 자신만의 의미를 찾으며 진로를 준비할 수 있도록 돕는 방향을 제시하였다는 점에 의의가 있으며 연구 결과를 바탕으로 논의 및 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating roles of search for meaning and presence of meaning in the relationship between grit and career preparation behavior among college students. A total of 286 students participated in an online survey assessing grit, search for meaning, presence of meaning, and career preparation behavior. Descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and serial mediation analyses were conducted using SPSS 24.0 and PROCESS Macro Model 6. The results revealed that grit, search for meaning, presence of meaning, and career preparation behavior were all significantly and positively correlated. The sequential mediating effect involving search for meaning in the relationship between grit and career preparation behavior was not significant, whereas the sequential mediating effect involving presence of meaning was significant. In addition, both search for meaning and presence of meaning individually demonstrated partial mediating effects in the relationship between grit and career preparation behavior. These findings highlight the importance of fostering not only students’ perseverance and passion for long-term goals but also their sense of personal meaning throughout the process of career preparation. In an increasingly uncertain and rapidly changing world of work, helping students discover and construct meaning may serve as a critical pathway to enhancing their proactive engagement in career development. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
