조개의 상징성 연구

A Study on the Symbolism of Shellfish in Sandplay Therapy

상징은 인류 출현 이후 모든 시대와 문명에서 인간의 심리와 정신 세계에 깊은 영향을 미쳐 왔으며, 무의식적 마음의 내용에서 자연적으로 발생한다. 자연의 상징 중 바다․강․호수 등 물과 관련된 생물은 번식, 부활, 우주 재건의 이미지를 담고 있으며, 조개는 바다․물․생명과 밀접한 존재로서 오래전부터 삶과 죽음의 심오한 의미를 내포한 상징물로 사용되었다. 본 연구는 다양한 문화권에서 나타나는 조개의 상징성을 고찰하고, 실제 모래놀이 상담 사례에서 그 상징이 어떻게 드러나는지를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 고대 유물, 민담, 신화, 예술 작품 등 문헌 자료를 분석하여 조개의 상징을 정리하고, 현대 임상에서의 적용 가능성을 검토하였다. 분석 결과, 조개의 상징성은 신성성, 여성성, 풍요와 다산, 통과의례와 재생, 안내자, 그리고 미(美)의 측면에서 나타났다. 실제 모래놀이 사례에서, 공황 발작으로 어려움을 겪는 10세 여아는 초경 시기와 연동된 조개 배치를 통해 여성성과 통과의례적 의미가 드러났으며, 이는 아동의 발달적 어려움을 이해하고 지지하는 데 중요한 단서를 제공하였다. 또 감정조절이 어려운 8세 남아의 사례에서는 조개가 ‘죽음과 재생’의 상징으로 나타나, 부정적 감정의 소멸과 새로운 자아 형성의 과정을 상징적으로 표현하는 것으로 해석되었다. 이러한 결과는 조개의 상징성이 모래놀이 과정에서 내담자의 무의식적 주제와 발달적 과제를 탐색하는 유용한 도구가 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

Symbols have had a strong impact on each individual throughout all eras and civilizations since the advent of mankind, and they naturally arise from aspects related to the deep psychological and mental world within us. Symbols of nature are derived from the contents of the unconscious mind, and they appear in the form of a fundamental circular image, and among the symbols of nature, living things live in the sea, rivers, and lakes and are used as mystical symbols along with water. Marine life, combined with the water of the uterus, is commonly used as a symbol of reproduction and restoration of the universe. Shells are naturally associated with sea, water, and life, and have long been regarded as symbols with profound meanings of life and death. They exist even before the formation of mankind and are spiritual creatures used in religion, witchcraft, medicine, funerals, and various ceremonies. The purpose of this study is to examine the symbolism of clams in various cultures, explore their meaning, and explore how the symbols appear in actual sand play cases. To this end, the general characteristics of clams and their symbolism were examined through literature, and how they are applied in modern times was expanded. The symbolism of clams can be seen in terms of divinity, femininity, abundance, and fertility, rite of passage, death and regeneration, guide, and beauty. Applying the symbolism in the researcher's actual sand play case, in the case of a 10-year-old girl suffering from a panic attack, considering that she had just begun her period, she was able to interpret the clam as a symbol of femininity and rite of passage, and her insights helped her understand the children she spoke to and supported them stably in the process. In the case of an eight-year-old boy who has difficulty controlling his emotions, he was able to imagine the hero's journey of killing himself caught up in a negative maternal complex and winning with the help of a hero. He was then able to mourn over the shells over two consecutive sessions, see the unusually angry father(父) and many shells placed in front of him in the box where he made his family, and he was able to believe in the inner strength of the child shown in the sand box and wait.
