달의 상징성에 대한 연구

A Study on the Symbolism of the Moon

본 연구는 달의 특성과 설화, 신화, 민담, 연금술, 점성술, 문학, 대중매체에서 나타나는 달의 상징성을 확충해 보았다. 달의 상징성은 첫째 신성성, 둘째 여성성, 셋째 감성, 넷째 변화와 순환, 다섯째 어둠과 빛으로 총 5가지로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 달은 신성성을 상징하며 우리나라의 전통 의례와 다양한 문화․ 종교에서 생명력, 풍요, 신성, 정의, 우주적 질서를 상징하는 중요한 신화적 존재로 숭배되었다. 둘째, 달은 여성성을 상징하며 담아내는 그릇, 즉 용기로서 달과 달의 여신은 생명, 어머니, 가정, 풍요를 상징하고, 다양한 문화와 신화에서 출산, 보호, 생명의 근원과 연결된 신성한 존재로 여겨졌다. 셋째, 달은 감성을 상징하며 달의 긍정적인 감성은 문학과 예술에서 정서적․심미적 상징으로 나타난다. 한편 부정적인 감성은 정신 이상, 우울 등과 연결되어 이상 정신 상태를 나타내기도 한다. 넷째, 달은 변화와 순환을 상징하며 달의 물리적인 변화뿐만 아니라 정서적인 변화와 순환을 의미한다. 다섯째, 달은 어둠과 빛을 상징하며 달의 뒷면을 볼 수 없다는 점에서 보이지 않는 두려움을 내포하고, 햇빛과는 달리 달빛은 어둠과 함께한다. 본 연구에서는 이를 7세 여아, 10세 여아, 18세 여학생, 39세 남성, 51세 여성 등 총 5명의 모래놀이 사례를 통해 분석하였다. 7세 여아는 어둠 속 달을 통해 무의식을 비추는 빛을 표현하였고, 10세 여아는 자궁과 유사한 공간을 통해 여성성과 모성의 상징을 드러냈다. 18세 여학생은 동화적 세계 속에서 안정감을 경험하며 수용적 여성성이 나타났고, 39세 남성은 달을 통해 긍정적 아니마 발달 가능성을 보였다. 51세 여성은 달 위의 노현모 이미지를 통해 부정적 모성 콤플렉스의 치유를 상징적으로 표현하였다. 본 연구는 달의 특성과 다양한 상징성을 확충함으로써 달의 상징 연구에 기여했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 달은 무의식을 상징하며 동전의 양면처럼 긍정적․부정적 영향을 동시에 지니고 있고, 모양의 변화처럼 다양한 의미로 확장될 수 있다. 내담자가 모래상자에 달을 놓으며 처음에는 ‘모르겠다’라고 표현하던 모습은 상담 회기를 거듭할수록 다른 형태로 반영되었으며, 이를 의식하며 감탄하게 되는 변화 속에서 달의 상징성이 더욱 분명하게 드러났다. 앞으로 달의 연금술과 전체성과의 상관관계를 포함한 연구가 진행된다면 달의 상징성 이해는 더욱 확충될 것으로 기대된다.

This study expanded the moon's characteristics and symbolism in folktales, myths, folktales, alchemy, astrology, literature, and the mass media. The moon's symbolism can be divided into five categories: first, sacredness, second, femininity, third sensibility, fourth change and cycle, and fifth, darkness and light. First, the moon symbolizes sacredness and was revered as an important mythological being that symbolizes vitality, abundance, sacredness, justice, and cosmic order in Korea's traditional rituals and various cultures and religions. Second, the moon and the moon are vessels that symbolize femininity, that is, containers, and the moon's goddesses are considered sacred beings connected to life, mother, home, and abundance in various cultures and myths, and to give birth, protection, and the source of life. Third, the moon symbolizes sensitivity, and the moon's positive sensitivity appears as an emotional and aesthetic symbol in literature and art. On the other hand, negative emotions are connected to mental abnormalities and depression, indicating an abnormal mental state. Fourth, the moon symbolizes change and cycle, and it means emotional change and cycle as well as physical changes of the moon. Fifth, the moon symbolizes darkness and light and contains invisible fear in that it cannot see the back of the moon, and unlike sunlight, the moon is accompanied by darkness. In this study, this was analyzed through a total of five cases of sand play, including a 7-year-old girl, a 10-year-old girl, an 18-year-old girl, a 39-year-old man, and a 51-year-old woman. A 7-year-old girl expressed the light that illuminates the unconscious through the moon in the dark, and a 10-year-old girl expressed the symbol of femininity and motherhood through a space similar to the uterus. An 18-year-old girl experienced a sense of stability in the fairy tale world and showed receptive femininity, and a 39-year-old man showed positive Anima development potential through the moon. A 51-year-old woman symbolized the healing of the negative maternal complex through the image of No Hyun-mo on the moon. This study is significant in that it contributed to the study of symbols of the moon by expanding the characteristics and various symbolism of the moon. The moon symbolizes the unconsciousness and has both positive and negative effects, like both sides of a coin, and can be expanded in various meanings, such as a change in shape. The appearance of the client expressing “I don’t know” while placing the moon on the sandbox at first was reflected in a different form as the counseling session continued, and the symbolism of the moon was more clearly revealed in the changes that became conscious and admired. In the future, if research including the correlation between lunar alchemy and totality proceeds, it is expected that the understanding of the symbolism of the moon will be further expanded.
