남자 보건교사의 직무 경험에 대한 질적 사례 연구: 직무 어려움과 대처, 강점 발현을 중심으로

A case study of male health education teachers’work experiences : focusing on job difficulties, coping strategies, and strengths

본 연구는 학교 현장에서 사회적 소수자인 남자 보건교사가 직무에서 겪는 어려움과 이에 대처하는 방식, 그리고 이들이 인식하는 직무 강점을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 연구자는 A도(道)에서 근무하는 전체 남자 보건교사 2명을 면담하였다. 본 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 본 연구에 참여한 남자 보건교사들은 성교육, 월경 관련 상담 및 처치, 여학생의 민감 신체 부위에 대한 처치에 어려움을 겪고 있었으나 학교 구성원과의 협력과 자원을 활용하는 등 다양한 방식을 숙고하여 대처해나가고 있었다. 반면, 남자 보건교사들은 남학생 대상의 성교육, 남학생들과의 관계 형성, 질서유지 교육에 있어서 스스로가 강점이 있다고 보고하였다. 본 연구 결과는 남자 보건교사에 대한 체계적인 지원 시스템 구축과 사회적 인식 개선의 필요성, 학교 보건 인력 정책의 방향에 대한 시사점을 제시한다.

The purpose of this study was to explore what challenges male health education teachers as a social minority in educational settings faced, how they coped with, and what strengths they brought into their professional roles. The author interviewed all two male school health education teachers working in Province A. The findings were as follows: The male health education teachers found difficulties in sex education, menstruation-related counseling and treatment, and physical examination and treatment of female students' sensitive body areas; However, they were professionally dealing with these challenges through various deliberate approaches, including collaboration with colleagues and utilization of available resources; Conversely, the male health education teachers found their strengths in delivering sex education to male students, building rapport with them, and teaching discipline. The results of this study suggested implications for establishing systematic support for male school health teachers, eliminating gender stereotypes about male school health teachers, and directing school health workforce policies.
