열로(悅路) 박선영의 종교 교육사상

SunYoung Park’s Thought of the Religious Education

[연구 목적] 이 연구는 한국 종교교육학회 창립자 열로(悅路) 박선영(1941-2018)의 종교교육 사상을 논의하기 위한 목적을 띠고 있다. 이 연구에서는 연구 목적에 기초해, 박 교수의 전기(傳記)와 학문적 업적 및 특징과 과제를 탐색했다. [연구 내용] 이 연구는 동국대학교 교육학과에 재직했던 박 교수와 생애에 대한 기술 그의 연구 업적, 후학들에게 남긴 과제로 내용을 구성했다. 첫째 부분인 박 교수의 생애에 대한 부분은 그의 인간적 측면, 대학인으로서 살아온 여정, 학회를 중심으로 한 학적 인연을 중심으로 기술하였다. 둘째, 연구업적 부분은 그의 연구를 전기와 후기로 나누고 연구 업적과 학문적 특징에 대해 기술하였다. 그리고 마지막 셋째 부분은 그가 미처 다하지 못하고 남겨 놓은 연구 과제를 기술하였다. [결론] 박 교수의 최대 업적은 한국종교교육학회를 창립하여 한국 종교교육학의 발전에 기여했다는 점이다. 박 교수는 오랫동안 학회 회장으로 봉직하면서, 학회의 발전을 위해 물심양면 노력과 헌신을 다했다. 이러한 그의 노력과 헌신으로 한국종교교육학회는 올해(2025년) 창립 30주년을 맞이하게 되었고, 명실공히 한국 인문학 분야의 중견학회로서 중추적인 위치를 점하게 되었다. 박 교수는 학문적 차원에서도 선구적인 역할을 한 것으로 평가되었다. 그는 불교와 교육의 학문적 연계를 통해 불교교육학을 창안했다. 이를 근거로 그는 자신이 추가하는 종교에 기반 한 독자적인 학문 영역을 구축한 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 학문적 연찬 과정을 통해서 박선영 교수는 한국 종교교육학을 정립하는데 결정적 기여를 했다.

[Objective] The purpose of this study is to explore the religious education thought of the late professor SunYoung Park, the first president of the Korean Association for the Study of Religious Education (KARES). The goal to be revealed in this article is to specifically evaluate professor Park’s biographical history and the characteristics and achievements of his studies. [Contents] To accomplish this purpose, the contents of this article is composed three parts. The first is prof. Park’s biography, who shared secular with a monk. The Second is the characteristic of his studies based on Buddhism and Education. Third third is the evaluation of his academic achievements. [Conclusions] Based on the results of the study, professor SunYoung Park proposed Buddhistic Education in a new field of education at the early times of 1980’s in Korean Academism. And so, his viewpoints of religious education attempted to create a typical model of the oriental education through acceptance of various religions and studies, centering on Buddhism. His religious education can be evaluated as providing a kind of typical model that shows the possibility of joining religion and education.
