This study was conducted for the purpose of classifying the scope of work of introverted toenail management from a cosmetic point of view and suggesting institutional improvement measures, taking into account the increasing demand for introverted toenail management in Korea and the continuing conflict of business between medical and beauty areas. Mixed research methods were applied to achieve the purpose of the study. A literature survey was conducted to understand the institutional status of introverted toenail management at home and abroad, and a questionnaire was distributed to men and women across the country using a literature survey. Of a total of 323 copies, 282 copies were finally analyzed, excluding 41 missing papers. Statistical processing was performed using the SPSS./WIN statistical program 24.0. Based on the results of the literature survey and the survey, interviews with three experts in introverted toenail management of master's or higher were conducted. As a result of the study, Germany, the United States, and Japan all clearly defined the range of introverted toenails management procedures possible in nail beauty shops by distinguishing mild and severe introverted toenails. In Korea, it was confirmed that business conflicts and field confusion occurred due to the absence of introverted toenails management standards in nail beauty shops. 42.2% responded positively to the need to classify the scope of work of introverted toenail management and 18.4% were very necessary. In expert interviews, excessive procedures, insufficient hygiene management, and ambiguity of the boundary between medical and non-medical practices were pointed out as the main causes of the current conflict in the industry, and opinions were suggested that mild introverted toenail management at nail beauty shops, systematic education, introduction of introverted toenail professional qualifications, and cooperation with medical institutions are needed. Through the results of the study, it was confirmed that for the institutional improvement of introverted toenail management in Korea, it is necessary to prepare a risk standard for classifying mild and severe cases, to stipulate the scope of non-medical management of nail beauty shops, to introduce an education and qualification system for professional personnel such as development literature managers, and to establish a cooperation and request system between the medical and beauty industries. This study is expected to be used as basic data for the establishment and institutionalization of introverted toenail management in the future.
