Seeking a Direction for the Recovery of Human Nature in Lao Tzu's Thoughts on Modern Society and Humans Revealed in the Squid Game

This study attempted to look at social and human issues and play in the drama <Squid Game> and sought directions for recovery of human nature through the lens of Lao Tzu's thoughts. To this purpose, it employed a literature review method centered on viewing <Squid Game>, related research, and Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. In seeking directions for restoring humanity: First, the mystery of life and educational direction, Since life is irreplaceable, its importance must be emphasized through education from an early age. Second, seeking to form symbiotic and coexistent relationships means living as beings who enable each other to live, as expressed by Lao Tzu's concept of mutual existence. Third, seeking a direction to leave behind an artificial life, it was suggested that we set aside self-centered, artificial lives and instead cultivate the wisdom to adapt and live within the given reality, like water, for the sake of family. Finally, regarding the reinforcement of the playfulness of human nature, it was proposed that we fill rest and experience healing of the mind through playtime dedicated to rest and healing. Through this study, we anticipate the restoration of humanity in modern individuals experiencing the loss of humanity through the practice of living in accordance with nature as advocated by Lao Tzu.
