An Analysis of Early Childhood Language (Korean) Education Guidebooks for Multicultural Families

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 가정 유아의 언어발달과 의사소통 역량 강화를 위한 한국어 교육 활동을 개발하는 데 기초 자료를 마련하는 것이다. 이를 위해 다문화 가정 유아를 대상으로 활용되고 있는 한국어 교육 지도서 두 권을 선정하여 그 구성과 특성을 비교․분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 교수지원전략에서 두 지도서 모두 ‘요청하기’ 전략이 높은 비중을 차지한 반면, ‘사전 경험’은 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 언어발달 영역에서는 두 지도서 모두 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기가 균등하게 많이 제시된 반면, 듣기는 상대적으로 적게 나타났다. 셋째, 의사소통능력에서, 한국어․한국 문화 학습지 교사용 지도서가 인지 및 언어영역 중심으로 구성된 데 비해 유아 언어교육 프로그램 지도서는 인지, 언어, 사회정서영역이 고르게 제시되었다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 다양한 한국어 교육 교재 분석 및 구조적 관계를 탐색하는 후속연구의 필요성을 제언한다.

The purpose of this study is to provide foundational data for developing Korean language education activities that support the language development and communication competence of young children from multicultural families. To achieve this aim, two Korean language teaching guides currently used with children from multicultural backgrounds were selected and their structures and characteristics were comparatively analyzed. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, in terms of instructional support strategies, both teaching guides placed a high emphasis on the strategy of “requesting,” whereas differences were found in the use of “prior experience.” Second, in the language development domain, both guides presented speaking, reading, and writing activities in roughly equal proportions, while listening activities were less frequent. Third, regarding communication competence, the Korean Language and Korean Culture Workbook Teacher’s Guide focused primarily on cognitive and linguistic domains. In contrast, the, Early Childhood Language Education Program Teacher’s Guide presented cognitive, linguistic, and social-emotional domains in a more balanced manner. Based on these findings, this study suggests the need for further research that expands the analysis to various Korean language education materials and examines the structural relationships among their components.
