본 연구는 스트레스 상황에서 자녀의 부정적 정서표현에 대한 어머니 반응이 자녀의 정서·행동 문제에 미치는 영향과 공감 능력의 매개효과를 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 전라남도 M군에 위치한 초등학생 4∼6학년 학생과 어머니 357명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구도구로 어머니의 반응은 CCNES(Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale), 우울·불안과 공격성은 K-CBCL (Korea-Child Behavior Checklist), 아동 공감 척도는 EQ-C(Emotional Quotient for Children)를 사용하였다. 연구분석은 SPSS Statistics 29.0 통계 프로그램을 사용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니의 정서중심적 지지반응과 최소화 비지지적 반응이 가장 높았다. 둘째, 어머니의 정서중심 지지적 반응이 우울·불안과 공격성에 유의한 부적영향을 미쳤다 반면 어머니의 처벌적 비지지적 반응, 심리적 스트레스 비지지적 반응이 우울·불안과 공격성에 유의한 정적영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 어머니의 지지적 반응과 비지지적 반응 모두 자녀의 공감 능력을 매개로 우울·불안과 공격성에 영향을 미쳤다. 어머니가 지지적 반응을 보일수록 공감 능력이 향상되며 이는 우울·불안과 공격성을 낮추는 영향을 미쳤다. 반면 어머니가 비지지적인 반응을 보일 때 자녀의 공감 능력은 저하되고 이는 우울·불안과 공격성을 높이는데 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 결과는 자녀의 정서표현에 대한 어머니의 반응이 자녀의 정서조절능력과 행동적응에 핵심적 역할을 하므로, 부모-자녀 간 긍정적 정서상호작용을 위한 체계적 개입이 필수적임을 시사한다.
This study investigates the influence of maternal responses to children's negative emotional expressions in stressful situations on children's emotional and behavioral problems by examining the mediating effect of children's empathic ability. The participants consisted of 357 fourth-to sixth-grade elementary school students from M County, Jeollanam-do, and their mothers. Data were collected using the CCNES (Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale), K-CBCL (Korean-Child Behavior Checklist), EQ-C, and SCRS instruments. The results demonstrated that maternal emotion-focused supportive responses significantly reduced children's depression, anxiety, and aggression, while punitive and distress responses increased these problems. In addition, children's empathic ability mediated the relationship between maternal responses and children's emotional and behavioral difficulties. The research findings suggest that mothers' responses to their children's negative emotions play an important role in their children's emotional and behavioral development.
