시지각적 노화 특성을 반영한 AAC 그래픽 상징 유형이 노인의 문장 구성 정확도와 속도에 미치는 영향

The Effect of AAC Graphic Symbol Types Reflecting Visual Aging Characteristics on Sentence Construction Accuracy and Speed in Older Adults

배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 시지각적 노화 특성인 시력 감소, 색 구별의 제한을 반영한 AAC 체계를 개발하고 상징 유형에 따른 노인의 문장 구성 정확도와 속도를 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법: 65세 이상 일반 노인 30 명을 대상으로 시지각 변인에 따라 설계된 4 가지 유형의 AAC 의사소통 보드를 활용하여 문장 구성 과제를 실시하였다. 결과: 상징 크기에 따라 문장 구성의 정확도, 총 구성 시간, 명사 구성시간에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 상징 개별의 색상은 정확도에 유의한 차이를 가져왔으며, 의사소통 보드 전체의 색상은 정확도, 총 구성 시간, 명사 구성 시간, 동사 구성 시간에 유의한 차이를 가져왔다. 결론: 그래픽 상징의 크기가 클수록, 의사소통 보드 전체의 색상이 난색⋅고명도⋅고채도일수록 문장을 더 정확하고 빠르게 구성할 수 있다. 이는 노인 AAC 체계 적용 시 시지각적 노화 특성을 파악해야 할 필요가 있다는 것을 시사한다. 그러나 동사의 경우 상징 크기가 속도향상에 영향을 주는 요인이 아니었으므로 추가적인 방안이 모색되어야 할 것이다.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to develop an AAC system that reflects the characteristics of visual aging - such as decreased visual acuity and limited color discrimination- and to examine the effects of graphic symbol types on the accuracy and speed of sentence construction in older adults. Methods: Thirty older adults aged 65 and above participated in a sentence construction task using four types of AAC boards, which were designed based on visual variables. Results: Significant differences based on symbol size were found in sentence construction accuracy, total construction time, and noun construction time. Individual graphic symbol colors yielded a significant difference in accuracy. The color of the overall communication board, however, brought about significant differences across accuracy, total construction time, noun construction time, and verb construction time. Conclusion: The larger the size of the graphic symbols and the more warm, high-brightness, and high-saturation the colors of the communication board, the more accurately and quickly sentences can be constructed. This suggests that understanding the characteristics of visual aging is essential when applying AAC systems for older adults. However, since symbol size did not improve the speed of verb construction, additional strategies should be considered.
