전통 사상에 기반한 통일철학과 통일교육

Unification philosophy and Unification education in South Korea based on Traditional Thought

본 연구는, 남북한 통일의 철학적 기반을 모색하는 작업의 일환으로 전통 사상에서 발견되는 통일 관련 사상적 요소를 개괄하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 통일의 필요성과 당위성에 대해 탐색하려면, 우선 통일에 관한 기존의 논의를 확장할 수 있는 다양한 배경적 차원의 사유가 모색되어야 한다는 문제의식 하에, 본 연구에서는 전통 사상에 기초한 통일철학의 일면을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 논자들이 선정한 전통사상가는 조선 유학 사상의 핵심축을 이루는 퇴계 이황과 율곡 이이, 다산 정약용 등이다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 선행 연구를 중심으로 각 사상가에 대한 북한 학계의 연구 동향을 검토하고, 그 흐름 내에서 발견되는 전통 사상 연구의 통합 가능성을 모색하였다. 이어서 세 사상가의 삶과 철학으로부터 확인할 수 있는 통일 관련 사상적 요소를 추출 및 분석하고, 이를 교육적 관점에서 검토하였다. 전통 사상은 남북한이 공유하는 공동의 유산임과 동시에, 교류와 협력, 통합의 과정에서 활용 가능한 유용한 자원이다. 이 전통 사상이라는 공통 분모 위에서 통일에 관한 논의를 전개하는 것은, 시간이 갈수록 심각해지는 남북한의 이질성을 완화하고, 공동체적 유대를 회복, 확산하는 데 긍정적 영향을 줄 것으로 기대된다.

This study aimed to explore the philosophical foundations of inter-Korean unification by outlining the ideational elements related to the unification found in traditional thought. With the recognition that enquiries into the necessity and normative justification of unification require broader background-level reflection, the study presents one aspect of the philosophy of unification grounded in traditional ideas. The study focused on Toegye Yi Hwang, Yulgok Yi I, and Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, who are key figures of Joseon Confucian thought. It reviewed the research trends in North Korean scholarship on these thinkers and examined the potential for integrative approaches within traditional thought. The study also analyzed unification-related ideas found in their lives and philosophies from an educational perspective. Traditional thought, as a shared heritage of the two Koreas, serves as a valuable resource for exchange, cooperation, and integration. Grounding discussions on unification in this shared foundation is expected to mitigate the growing heterogeneity between North and South Korea and to restore and strengthen the communal bonds.
