Objective: Ankle instability can negatively affect proprioception, muscle strength, and balance, potentially leading to functional impairment. This study aimed to compare the effects of kinesio taping, lumbar belt, and joint mobilization on balance ability and proprioception in older adults with chronic ankle instability, and to identify the most effective intervention. Design: Crossover study Methods: Fifteen older adults with chronic ankle instability were included in this study. The participants received interventions of kinesio tapes, lumbar belt, and joint mobilization interventions. Balance ability was assessed using functional reach and Y-balance tests, while proprioception was measured using a dual digital inclinometer. Differences in balance ability and proprioception among the three interventions were analyzed using one-way repeated-measures ANOVA. When significant differences were found, a post-hoc analysis was performed with Bonferroni adjustments. Results: In the functional reach test, joint mobilization produced significantly better results than kinesio taping (p < 0.017). In the Y-balance test, joint mobilization outperformed the lumbar belt (p < 0.017). Conclusions: Ankle joint mobilization may be an effective intervention for improving balance ability in older adults with chronic ankle instability. Further research is warranted to evaluate the sustainability of these effects and the long-term clinical outcomes.
