Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the reporting quality of case reports published in the Journal of Korean Medicine for Obesity Research (2019-2024) using the CAse REport (CARE) guidelines, and to compare the results with a previous evaluation of reports from 2013 to 2018. Methods: Case reports were identified through database and manual searches. Each report was evaluated using the 2017 CARE checklist, which consists of 28 subitems across 13 domains. Reporting was assessed as either “reporting” (1 point) or “not reporting” (0 points). The results were analyzed based on the maximum, minimum, and median reporting rates, and then compared with those of the previous study. Results: Seven case reports were included. Compared to the previous study, the overall quality of reporting improved. The maximum and median reporting rates increased, while the minimum and median “not reporting” rates decreased. Six items reached 100% reporting, notably “intervention adherence and tolerability” and “adverse and unanticipated events.” In contrast, three items—“diagnostic challenges,” “diagnostic reasoning,” and “informed consent”—emained unreported. The decreased reporting in five items was largely attributed to the stricter evaluation criteria applied in this study. Conclusions: The overall quality of recent case reports has improved. However, the persistence of underreported items highlights the need for continued efforts to enhance the completeness and transparency of case reporting in Korean medicine.
