다문화사회의 소통과 바흐친의 대화주의: 행위에서 존재로

Communication in Multicultural Society and Bakhtin’s Dialogism: From Action to Being

본 연구는 다문화사회의 소통을 Bakhtin의 대화주의 관점에서 존재론적·윤리적으로 재해석하고자 한다. 기존 다문화사회의 소통 모형은 타자를 집단의 구성원 또는 기능적 주체로 수용함으로써, 진정한 대화의 가능성을 제약해 왔다. 특히 상호문화주의는 주체를 집단 너머의 개인으로 인식했다는 점에서 진전을 이뤘지만, 존재론적 층위까지는 나가지 못한 채 소통을 단지 ‘행위’로 이해함으로써 그 본질을 탐색하지 못했다. 이에 본고는 Bakhtin의 대화주의를 통해 주체와 타자의 관계를 새롭게 사유하고, 소통이 수단이 아닌 목적 그 자체로서 실천되어야 함을 주장하고자 한다. 나아가 다문화사회에서의 소통이 전략적 행위나 형식적 상대주의를 넘어, 타자의 존재를 인정하고 경청하며 응답하는 대화적 윤리로 구현되어야 함을 밝히고자 한다.

This study aims to reinterpret communication in multicultural societies from the ontological and ethical perspectives of Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogism. Existing models of communication in multicultural contexts have often limited the possibility of genuine dialogue by accepting the Other merely as a member of a group or as a functional subject. Although interculturalism has made progress by recognizing the subject as an individual beyond collective identity, it has failed to reach the ontological dimension, understanding communication merely as an action rather than exploring its essence. Drawing on Bakhtin’s concept of dialogism, this paper seeks to reconceptualize the relationship between the self and the Other, arguing that communication should be practiced not as a means but as an end in itself. Furthermore, it contends that communication in multicultural societies should move beyond strategic action or formal relativism, and be realized as a dialogical ethics that acknowledges, listens to, and responds to the existence of the Other.
