채플린시는 병원, 학교, 군대, 교정시설, 사회복지기관 등과 같은 공공영역에서 수행되는 영적 돌봄의 사목으로, 현대 사회의 세속화 속에서 공공사목의 한 형태로 부상하고 있다. 영국 성공회는 국교회로서 채플린시 제도가 형성되는 데 중요한 영향을 끼첬으며, 이는 공공신학, 종교적 돌봄의 사회적 제도화를 이해하는 데 핵심적 사례로 평가된다. 본 논문은 영국 성공회 전통 안에서 형성되고 발전해 온 채플린시의 역사를 고찰함으로써, 한국적 상황에서 채플린시를 어떻게 제도화하고 신학적으로 정립할 수 있는지 모색한다.

Chaplaincy is a type of public ministry emerging within today’s secular world to provide spiritual care in public settings such as hospitals, schools, the military, prisons, and social welfare institutions. The Church of England as the established church has played a crucial role in forming the current chaplaincy system, and this is a great example for understanding the institutionalization of religious care and public theology. This paper examines the history of chaplaincy that formed and developed within The Church of England and explores how to institutionalize and theologically establish chaplaincy in the Korean context.
