여의도 광장과 ‘사이드킥’ 행위자 : 여의도 화장실 커뮤니티 매핑 이야기를 통한 행위의 발견

A ‘Sidekick’ Actor in Yeouido Square : Discovering ‘Action’ through Yeouido Restroom Community Mapping

본 연구는 2024년 12월 여의도 집회 기간에 이루어진 여의도 화장실 지도 커뮤니티 매핑 프로젝트에 참여한 한 청년의 경험을 중심으로, 이것이 단지 일상 현상을 넘어 어떤 의미를 형성하며 자리매김하는지 그 과정과 의미를 탐색하고자 한다. 공적 영역으로서 광장의 은유가 주로 광장 내부의 시민과 그 활동에 주목해왔다면, 본 연구는 광장의 뒷면에서 조명되지 못한 다른 시민의 활동을 드러내고 그것이 어떻게 공적인 영역에서의 행위로서 의미를 구성하는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 참여자는 광장 뒤편에서부터 시작해 타인의 응답과 공유를 통해 광장 중심과 그 너머로까지 확장되는 맥락 속에서 자신의 행위가 의미가 되는 과정을 드러내었다. 이를 통해, 참여자의 화장실 커뮤니티 매핑 경험과 형성된 의미는 공적 영역의 관점을 넓힐 뿐만 아니라 ‘함께 함’의 맥락을 통해 ‘행위’의 의미를 드러내는 과정을 보여주었다. 이처럼 한 개인의 행위는 특정 결과물로써가 아니라 시작의 연쇄이자 무한한 과정으로서 그 의미를 드러낸다. 따라서, 참여자는 타인의 행위를 가능케 하는 ‘사이드킥(sidekick)’이라는 이름의 행위자로서의 확장된 의미를 드러낸다. This study explores the meaning and process of ‘action’ through the experience of a youth participant in the ‘Yeouido Restroom Community Mapping’ project, conducted during the agroa in December 2024. While the metaphor of the square as a public sphere has often centered on the citizens and their activities within its visible boundaries, this study illuminates the unseen practices occurring behind it, revealing that peripheral aspects of an individual’s action generate meanings. This study explores how the participant’s experience– initially positioned at the space remote from the square – expanded toward the center and beyond through others’ responses and acts of sharing. It shows how an action of an individual gains and discover the meaning not as an certain or static outcome but as an ongoing process with the chain of beginning, by being connected and sharing among others. Throughout, this formed demonstrated not only a broadening of the public sphere's perspective but also a process of revealing the meaning of “action” within the context of “being together,‘ implicating that the new emergence of an actor named ‘sidekick.’
