Drum-Based Rishi Dalit Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh: Window of Opportunity through Samaul Undong

This paper investigates the work and livelihood patterns of drum-making entrepreneurs within the Rishi Dalit community of the Tala sub-district in Satkhira, Bangladesh. The study primarily focuses on the production and economic dimensions of their craft, including: the entrepreneurs' experience and working hours. their income, costs, and the value of their drum products and the availability of raw materials and the distribution channels for their finished goods. The research relies on primary data collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with 25 drum-making entrepreneurs in the sub-district. The paper also highlights the potential threat that technological advancements pose to these artisans, suggesting that such progress could limit the role of entrepreneurs and their mastery of the craft. To ensure the preservation of this traditional musical instrument, the study recommends adopting immediate measures, such as applying the Saemaul Undong model to improve product quality and safeguard the livelihood of these entrepreneurs.

본 논문은 방글라데시의 전통악기인 드럼 제작 기업가들의 노동 및 생계 패턴을 조사한 연구다. 방글라데시 사트키라 탈라 소구역 내에 위치한 이들 전통 북 제작자들에 대한 근무 시간, 소득, 비용, 전통 북제품의 가치, 원자재 가용성 및 완제품 유통 경로 등을 포함하여 기업가의 생산 및 경제적 측면에 초점을 맞추어서 관련된 전문 기업가 25명을 대상으로 수집한 주요 데이터를 기반으로 진행되었다. 연구 결과, 방글라데시 전통 북 기술의 발전이 오히려 이러한 숙련된 장인들에게 잠재적 위협이 될 수 있음을 발견하였다. 이는 전통북 제작기술의 발전이 오히려 전통적인 방식으로 제작하는 기업가의 역할과 기술 숙련도를 제한할 수 있음을 시사한다. 이에 본 연구에는 방글라데시 전통 악기의 보존과 발전을 위해, 다음의 세부 7 가지 사항에 대한 즉각적인 조치를 취할 것을 권고하고자 한다. ①공동체 기반 협동조합설립 ②기술 교육 및 디자인 통합 ③ 친환경 제조 및 자립 ④ 기관 및 NGO 지원 ⑤ 브랜딩 및 시장 접근 ⑥문화활성화프로그램⑦모니터링 평가 및 지속가능성 확보 그것이다. 이를 통해 한국의 새마을운동 모델의 성공적인 방글라데시 적용과 제품 품질의 개선은 물론 기업가들의 생계를 보호할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.
