This study, a single-group pretest-posttest design, investigated the effects of applying a simulation-based problem-based learning method to a patient safety extracurricular program on problem-solving ability, self-directed learning, and learning motivation. Participants were 20 first-year nursing students from University B, located in Metropolitan City A. Data were collected from August 27 to 28, 2025. The patient safety program, a non-curricular program, consisted of three PBL scenarios, reflection, and simulation exercises over two days. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 29.0, and paired-samples t-tests were used to examine differences between pre- and post-intervention variables. The results showed statistically significant differences in problem-solving ability (Z = -3.30, p < .001), self-directed learning ability (t = -3.20, p = .005), and learning motivation (t = -5.95, p < .001). Therefore, the results of this study suggest that it is necessary to apply simulation-linked problem-based learning methods to various extracurricular programs.
