This study investigates student-educator co-creation as an alternative pedagogical model in Korean university film education. Existing discourse has disproportionately emphasized ‘student voice’ and ‘pure authorship’, obscuring educators’ creative contributions (Chambers, 2019). Through case study analysis of Grade Appeal, where the educator participated as director, cinematographer, and actor, this research identifies significant educational outcomes: recognition of directing/acting processes and pre-production planning often invisible in typical student projects, and development of critical self-reflection and creative efficacy through festival participation and audience engagement. Drawing on Chambers’s framework of educators as ‘co-creators’ and ‘creative producers’, and Boutellier & Raptis’s findings on collaborative investigation strengthening transferable skills, this study demonstrates that pedagogically designed co-creation produces stronger learning outcomes than either unilateral instruction or autonomous student projects. The findings suggest that horizontal collaboration between students and educators enables authentic professional skill development while preserving student agency.
