유아 음악 활동을 통한 문화 다양성 교육 탐색: 서울시 A 유치원과 B 어린이집을 통한 사례조사

A Case Study on Multicultural Education through Music Activities in Early Childhood: Focusing on Kindergarten A and Childcare Center B in Seoul City

본 연구는 대한민국 유아교육시설에서 음악 활동을 매개로 한 다문화 교육이 어떠한 방식으로 인식되고 실천되고 있는지를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 누리과정을 운영하는 유치원과 어린이집을 대상으로 수업 참관과 시설 견학을 실시하고, 원장을 대상으로 개별 심층면담을 진행하였다. 수집된 면담 자료는 전사 과정을 거친 뒤, KH Coder를 활용한 텍스트 마이닝 및 계량적 텍스트 분석으로 검토하였다. 연구 결과, 음악 활동은 유아의 문화적 경험을 확장하는 놀이 중심 교육활동으로 이해되고 있었으며, 국악과 다양한 문화권의 음악은 문화적 정체성과 다양성 이해를 연결하는 경험 요소로 인식되고 있었다. 또한 원장은 음악 활동을 통해 관계 형성, 표현 활동, 문화 체험이 통합적으로 이루어질 수 있음을 중요하게 인식하고 있었다. 본 연구는 사례 중심 분석을 통해 유아음악교육이 다문화 이해를 매개하는 교육적 가능성을 지니고 있음을 제시하며, 누리과정 맥락에서 음악 활동의 교육적 의미를 재조명하는 데 의의가 있다.

This study explores how multicultural education mediated through music activities is perceived and practiced in early childhood education settings in South Korea. Classroom observations and site visits were conducted at kindergartens and childcare centers implementing the Nuri curriculum, along with in-depth interviews with principals. The interview data were transcribed and analyzed using text mining and quantitative text analysis with KH Coder. The findings show that music activities are implemented through play-based practices that expand children’s cultural experiences. Traditional Korean music and music from diverse cultural backgrounds were recognized as elements linking cultural identity with an understanding of cultural diversity. This study suggests that music activities hold educational potential as a medium for multicultural understanding and provides foundational insights into the role of music education within the Nuri curriculum.
