부조리적 고난의 고통에 공감하기: 욥기를 중심으로

Empathizing with the Pain of Absurd Suffering: Focusing on the Book of Job

본 연구는 욥이 처한 상황이 부조리적 고난의 상황이라는 것에 주목하며 욥기에 나타난 공감의 실패와 성공, 그 원인과 결과를 탐색하고자 한다. 아울러 그것을 바탕으로 기독(목회)상담에서 유용한 상담적 개입 모델을 제시하는 것에 그 목적을 둔다. 이를 위하여 선행 연구를 바탕으로 욥이 처한 상황이 부조리적 고난의 상황이라는 것을 파악하였으며 기독(목회)상담학적으로 욥기에는 공감이 부재함을 발견하였다. 그러나 부조리적 고난의 상황에서 지양해야 할 공감의 접근법과 지향해야 할 접근법이 무엇인지 구체적으로 확인 할 수 없었다. 이에 연구자들은 욥기서를 ‘공감의 실패와 성공, 그 원인과 결과’라는 주제로 분석하였으며 그 내용들을 결과로 도출하였다. 공감 실패의 내용은 4개의 범주가 도출되었으며, 공감 실패의 결과로는 욥의 22개 반응으로 도출되었다. 공감 실패의 요인으로는 욥의 친구들과 엘리후가 고착되어 있는 ‘원인’, ‘문제 해결’, ‘결과’, ‘가르침’의 4가지 범주로 도출되었다. 공감 성공의 결과로는 ‘선과 악의 통합’, ‘자발적 회개’, ‘용서와 수용’ 등 3가지 범주가 도출되었으며. 공감 성공의 요인은 ‘긍정적 시선’, ‘긍휼의 시선’, ‘정죄하지 않는 태도’, ‘선확인 후조언’, ‘공감 행동’, ‘진실된 위로’, ‘경청하는 자세’의 7가지 범주가 도출되었다. 이를 바탕으로 부조리적 고난에 고통받는 내담자들에게 기독(목회)상담적으로 적용 가능한 공감 모델을 제시하였으며 후속 연구의 방향을 제언하였다.

This study intends to examine the failures and successes of empathy in the book of Job, its causes and consequences, noting that Job's situation is one of absurd suffering. In addition, the purpose of this study is to build a pastoral counseling model of empathy. To this end, the researchers analyzed the book of Job under the theme of ‘empathy failures and successes, their causes and consequences’ and drew out the results. The analysis revealed four major categories of empathic failure and 22 types of responses expressed by Job. In contrast, empathic success resulted in three thematic categories: “integration of good and evil”, “voluntary repentance”, and “forgiveness and acceptance”. Seven categories of successful empathy factors were identified. Based on this, a model of empathy that can be applied in pastoral counseling to clients who suffer from absurd suffering was proposed, and directions for further research were suggested.
