Clear Aligner Therapy in Contemporary Orthodontics Part 1 – Deep Bite

In this paper, the authors present two cases of deep bite malocclusion managed with clear aligners. The first case involved a growing patient with a low-angle Class II skeletal pattern. Treatment benefited from residual growth potential and the facilitation of vertical eruption of the posterior teeth. However, achieving the desired outcome required two sets of aligners. The second case concerned a 40-year-old female patient with a more severe anterior deep bite and a Class II skeletal pattern. Despite the absence of growth-related advantages, treatment was successfully completed with a single set of aligners. This efficiency was achieved through several strategies, including the use of maxillary anterior lingual precision bite ramps, mandibular anterior lingual pressure areas, supporting attachments, overcorrection setups, and a combination of crown labial inclination with intrusion. Comparison of the two cases highlights that different treatment strategies are necessary for the efficient management of deep bite malocclusions. Nevertheless, this report illustrates potential approaches rather than establishing comparative effectiveness.
