미래 기술이 아닌 인간 이야기: 로봇 동화를 통한 인간다움의 재사유

Not Stories of Future Technology, but of Humanity: Reconsidering Human Values through Robot Picturebooks

본 연구는 2000년 이후 출간된 유아 대상 로봇 동화를 분석하여 동화 속에서 로봇이 어떤 방식으로 재현되며 유아에게 어떠한 의미와 메시지를 전달하는지를 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 동화의 서사구조와 주제, 동화 속 로봇의 역할과 관계성을 중심으로 질적 내용 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 동화에서 로봇은 단순한 기술적 도구나 미래 상상의 산물로 그려지기보다, 인간의 삶을 비추는 거울이자 관계와 감정을 성찰하게 하는 서사적 장치로 재현되고 있었다. 특히 로봇 동화는 완벽함과 효율성을 지닌 존재로서의 로봇과 대비하여, 실수하고 부족하며 감정을 지닌 인간의 불완전함이 지니는 가치를 부각하였다. 이러한 서사는 유아가 기술의 편리함을 무비판적으로 수용하기보다, 관계의 책임, 공감의 의미, 인간다움의 본질을 함께 성찰하도록 이끌었다. 본 연구는 로봇을 활용한 교육적 효과나 기술 적용의 가능성을 논의한 기존 연구들과 달리, 로봇 동화를 문학적 텍스트로 분석함으로써 유아가 기술 문명 속에서 형성하게 되는 감정과 가치의 지형을 조망하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

This study examines children’s picturebooks featuring robots published since 2000 to explore how robots are represented in these narratives and the meanings and messages they convey to young children. Accordingly, a qualitative content analysis was conducted focusing on the narrative structure, themes, and relational roles of robots in selected picture books for young children. The analysis reveals that robots in picturebooks are portrayed not merely as technological tools or imaginary figures of the future, but as narrative devices that reflect human life and invite reflection on relationships and emotions. In particular, robot picturebooks highlight the value of human imperfection, such as making mistakes, experiencing limitations, and expressing emotions, by contrasting humans with robots characterized by perfection and efficiency. Through these narratives, children are encouraged not to uncritically accept technological convenience, but to reflect on relational responsibility, the meaning of empathy, and the essence of being human. Unlike previous studies that have focused on the educational effectiveness of robots or the application of technology in early childhood education, this study contributes to the literature by analyzing robot picturebooks as literary texts, thereby illuminating the emotional and value-laden landscape through which young children experience technological civilization.
