This study is a qualitative case study that aimed to explore the changes in self-awareness and emotional expression among adults who have experienced social isolation, and to understand the meanings of those changes through the application of Gestalt group counseling. The participants were three women in their early-to-mid 30s who were recruited from a community welfare center. They attended a total of eight 60-minute sessions held once a week from May 2 to August 14, 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participants’ self-records, and the counselor’s observation notes as the main qualitative data sources. The analysis revealed that the participants experienced the following themes through Gestalt group counseling: The beginning of self-awareness, Changes in emotional expression, Reconstruction of relational experiences, and The process of recovery. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the psychological characteristics of socially isolated adults and demonstrates that Gestalt group counseling can serve as an effective therapeutic intervention to facilitate self-awareness and emotional expression in adults.
