한국어린이문학교육학회 추천도서 서평의 최근 경향 분석

Analysis of recent trends in children’s book review by the Korean Society for Children’s Literature & Education

본 연구의 목적은 2017년 이후 한국어린이문학교육학회 추천도서 서평의 최근 경향을 분석하는 것이다. 학회 홈페이지에서 공개된 추천도서 서평 총 210편을 글 텍스트, 그림 텍스트, 파라텍스트, 비평, 기타의 분석 준거를 토대로 코딩하여 빈도분석을 하였다. 분석 결과, 전체 줄거리를 소개하거나 주제를 설명하는 글 텍스트, 색이나 매체와 표현기법과 같은 그림 텍스트, 표지와 같은 파라텍스트, 그림책의 활용방안이나 도서 우수성을 언급한 비평의 빈도가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는, 포스트 모더니즘 그림책의 등장 이후 그림과 파라텍스트의 다양한 기능과 역할에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 서평이 글에만 주목하지 않고 그림책 특성을 고려하여 그림이나 표지까지 해석의 영역에 포함했음을 시사한다. 반면, 추천도서의 배경, 선이나 구도, 유사한 작품 간의 비교 등은 상대적으로 빈도가 낮았으며 분석대상이 추천도서이므로 도서의 한계 혹은 정확성이나 적절성에 대한 비판이 없었다. 따라서 앞으로의 서평에서 배경, 선이나 구도, 유사한 작품 간의 비교에 관심을 기울여야 하며 도서의 한계 혹은 정확성이나 적절성에 대한 비판에도 충실하여 서평의 객관성 담보를 위한 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study analyzes recent trends in book reviews of recommended books by the Korean Society for Children's Literature & Education since 2017. A total of 210 reviews published on the society's website were coded and analyzed using frequency analysis across five categories: written text, pictorial text, paratext, criticism, and others. High frequencies appeared in written text introducing plots or themes, in pictorial texts such as color, medium, and expressive techniques, in paratexts such as covers, and in criticism noting practical applications or the books' excellence. These findings suggest that following the emergence of postmodern picture books, growing interest in the functions of illustrations and paratext has expanded reviews beyond written text to include illustrations and covers, reflecting the distinctive nature of picture books. By contrast, background, line, and composition, as well as comparisons between similar works, were relatively infrequent, because the subjects were recommended books, no criticism addressed their limitations, accuracy, or appropriateness. Therefore, future reviews should pay greater attention to background, line, and composition, to comparisons between similar works, and to engaging more critically with the limitations, accuracy, and appropriateness of books to ensure greater objectivity.
