The purpose of this study was to examine how self-reflection sheets and self-evaluation sheets written by pre-service early childhood teachers after microteaching organize the same teaching experience in different ways. To this end, the study explored the keywords and core–periphery structures formed in the semantic networks of the two datasets, their commonalities and differences, and how these structures could be interpreted from the perspective of reflection level theory. Data from 150 pre-service early childhood teachers who participated in a Teaching Methods for Infants and Young Children course conducted through team-based learning from 2022 to 2024 were aggregated by instrument to construct separate semantic networks, and centrality and core–periphery structures were analyzed. Their structural characteristics were then interpreted exploratorily in light of reflection level theory. The results showed that “young children” formed the innermost core in both datasets, while the self-reflection sheets showed a process-centered structure oriented toward lesson preparation and improvement, and the self-evaluation sheets showed a monitoring-centered structure focused on checking lesson implementation. The two instruments shared only about one-third of their major keywords, and vocabulary related to collaboration and feedback was concentrated in the self-reflection sheets. In light of reflection level theory, the two discourse structures showed characteristics relatively closer to those of dialogic reflection and technical reflection, respectively, while neither dataset exhibited a structure clearly indicative of critical reflection. These differences, however, should be understood less as differences in the reflective capacity of individual pre-service teachers than as differences in the discourse structures of the two aggregated datasets, with the differing writing formats potentially contributing to these differences. The two instruments can therefore be regarded as complementary tools that organize reflection in different ways, and their integrated use may support the extension of reflective discourse structures.
